Have you ever wondered why you are here? As in, what’s the purpose of life? Are we all just here by accident or is there a reason you are on the earth?
The Bible tells us that God knew each one of us before we were born and carefully formed us in the womb. Then He breathed His life into us. How incredible! Not a single person is a mistake or an accident, no matter your background or personal history.
Even better, Jesus promised, “I have come in order that you might have life – life in all its fullness” (John 10:10 GNT). My personal translation of that is: Jesus came so that we could experience life…to the max!
The first and most important step to obtain this “life to the max” is making a decision to follow Jesus Christ, to live totally for Him and no longer for yourself. I know, this doesn’t make much sense. How can I get the most out of life when I’m no longer in charge anymore?
But Jesus warned us if we seek to save our lives, pursue our own wants, desires, goals, and dreams, we will inevitably lose them because our desires are contrary to God’s instructions for life. But if we surrender our lives to Him, if we seek His Kingdom first, we will find joy, peace, fellowship with God, a clean conscious, and on top of all that, eternal life. This is life to the max. It is more satisfying than the fleeting enjoyment found in partying, drinking, or sex. It is more lasting than the fame of going viral on youtube and worth more than launching the next billion dollar app.
The Bible tells us of a young man named Josiah who decided to obtain this type of max life. He chose not to follow the example of his wicked family members or conform to the pressure of his self-seeking culture. Instead at the age of 16, “while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his ancestor David” (II Chronicles 34:3). He made a personal commitment to serve God. This is what Jesus said is the greatest commandment, our highest and best purpose here on earth: to serve the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and with all your mind. This is what life is all about!
